VII Latin American Parachuting Championship in Varadero

The International Skydiving Center of Varadero, in the Cuban province of Matanzas, will host from August 20 to 25, the VII Latin American and III of Friendship Championship of precision skydiving with the presence of 27 foreign athletes and 20 Cubans.

René González, president of the Cuban Aviation Club (CAC), organizer together with the Latin American Parachuting Confederation (COLPAR Siglo XXI), said that representatives from Brazil, Chile, El Salvador, Montenegro, Russia and Cuba will participate.

Russia and Cuba will present two teams each. The hosts will also have a women’s team of competitors and athletes from the Revolutionary Armed Forces.

“We have 27 foreign athletes and 20 Cuban athletes confirmed. The Cuban teams will come out of the National Championship that will take place from this Saturday until the 25th in the city of Baracoa,” Gonzalez added.

Each team will be composed of five members. Cuba holds the Latin American record for group precision, established during the Latin American Championship held in Paseo Fundo, Brazil, on May 31, 2013.

Several of these athletes will be in the National Championship that starts this Saturday in the Primate City of Cuba, Baracoa, which will also commemorate the anniversary of the birth of Commander in Chief Fidel Castro Ruz.

In the aforementioned competitions, awards will be given to the champion team and the best parachutist of both sexes. The objective is to exchange experiences and strengthen friendship and camaraderie among national and foreign parachutists, judges and event support personnel, encourage the practice of precision jumps and improve techniques.
