The University of Havana has been granted the status of alternative headquarters for the Cuban Academy of Sciences.
Luis Velázquez Pérez, the president of the Academy, presented the rector of the University, Miriam Nicado García, the certificate during a ceremony at the Aula Magna of the University.
During the ceremony, Velázquez emphasized that the center for advanced studies has consistently demonstrated its dedication to scientific progress, innovation, and inter-institutional cooperation.
Moreover, he presented the Academic diploma to the Argentinian legal scholar Aída R. Kemelmajer de Carlucci, who holds a PhD in Legal and Social Sciences and has received similar honors in several Latin American countries and Spain.
The Cuban Academy of Sciences granted the first recognition of alternative headquarters to the Hermanos Ameijeiras Clinical Surgical Hospital in December last year. The hospital was inaugurated on December 3, 1982, by Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro.
The award was also granted to Frei Betto, a renowned Brazilian friar and author; and to José Ángel Obeso Inchausti, a renowned Spanish scientist, physician, and neurologist.
