Syrian Foreign Minister Faisal Al-Mekdad will begin an official visit to the Arab Republic of Egypt this Saturday, as declared by the Egyptian Foreign Ministry.
Al-Mekdad’s visit is the first of its kind since the outbreak of the war in Syria in 2011 and since the reduction of the level of political and diplomatic relations between the two Arab countries in 2012.
At the end of last February, the Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sameh Shoukry, visited Syria to express solidarity with this Levantine nation that was shaken by devastating earthquakes.
The last two months have witnessed a certain Arab political opening towards Damascus, which was visited by several foreign ministers and heads of parliaments and parties in the region, in a step to restore relations and return Syria to its environment.
