Cuba won silver and bronze medals today in the day of wrestling at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
Yusneylis Guzman’s silver medal in 50 kilograms was historic, after losing 0-3 to American Sarah Ann Hildebrandt, third in Tokyo 2020 and medalist in the three World Championships of the Olympic cycle.
The Antillean had lost in the semis to India’s Vinesh Phogat, but the Asian did not make weight on Wednesday and was disqualified.
Meanwhile, her fellow countryman Gabriel Rosillo, reigning world champion, finished with a bronze medal in the 97 kilograms division in Greco-Roman style.
The Antillean fighter threw Uzbekistan’s Rustam Assakalov a few seconds into the bout and caused an injury to his right shoulder that prevented him from continuing in the battle.
