The enormous challenges facing the left in Latin America in the face of the imperialist policy to destroy democratic processes were pointed out Thursday in Havana by renowned Argentine political scientist Atilio Borón.
The also writer spoke this Thursday with officials of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba about the conflicts facing the world today and the challenges for the revolutionary processes, this political force reported on his website.
The conference referred to the imperial strategies to dismember the progressive processes in the continent, the manipulation of the media, the attempts at cultural destruction, and in this scenario, the great challenges facing revolutionary forces in the current era.
He assured that “the long dominance of the West over the rest of the international scene is over. The West has been reduced, its power has diminished, the dominant bloc that it used to be has disintegrated”, and in the face of that imperial decline, a multipolar world has emerged, with alternative leaders and processes that the empire considers a danger.
He warned that in this scenario “imperialism headed by the United States becomes more aggressive, and for this reason, it applies sanctions to countries, promotes military conflicts, blockades and strategies to hinder the development of nations.”
Regarding the current situation in Europe, he pointed out that neo-Nazism is proliferating, a return to the fascist far-right, even from government coalitions, and a fragmentation of the economy, which has put the continent’s advance at risk.
He considered that “there is a sequence of wars planned by the United States” the first of which is against Russia, staged in Ukraine, and a second stage, even recognized by senior officials, the war with China, due to the danger these nations represent for the survival of imperialism.
Borón called for a collective reflection on what revolutionary governments can do in this scenario and expressed that the revitalization of Latin American integration mechanisms is necessary to concretize and support commercial independence and cooperation between the nations of the region.
In another part of his conference, Borón considered it essential to appropriate the new forms of communication and use the tools this field offers to spread the ideology of each society, in the face of neoliberal ideas.
Atilio Borón is in Cuba to participate in the First International Meeting of Theoretical Publications of Left Political Parties and Movements to be held from today until February 12.
