Cuba recorded a maximum temperature of 40.1 degrees Celsius on Thursday afternoon in the town of Jucarito, in the eastern province of Granma.
The previous national temperature was 39.7 degrees and dated from April 12, 2020, at the Veguitas meteorological station, in the same territory. Thus, April is confirmed as the month with the highest heat records on the Caribbean island.
The main specialist of the Forecast Center of the Institute of Meteorology Evelio García explained to the press that the new record was favored by the marked influence of high pressures, intense solar radiation, little cloud cover and weak winds.
