Italian Sinner makes history at Australian Open tennis tournament

Italian Jannik Sinner inscribed his name in the history of world sport by winning the Australian Open Tennis Championships 2024.

Sinner entered the select club of Grand Slam champions with epic included, not only because he defeated Novak Djokovic in the semifinals, maximum winner of this tournament and number one in the ATP ranking, but also because he did it with an anthological comeback.

Daniil Medvedev arrived at the Rod Laver Arena ready to put an end to his bad streak in finals, since he only won the 2021 US Open in six matches. The Italian won with partials of 3-6, 3-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 and a definitive 6-3.

It was the first time in 19 years that a member of the well-known Big Three – Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic – did not play in the final.

And it cannot be said that the young monarch took advantage of that, because he took out the Serbian during the semifinals of the tournament.

In the women’s event, Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka won the women’s crown by defeating Coco Gauff, who beat her in the final of the U.S. Open last September.
