This internationalist warrior, born in the United States, fell in battle for the Cuban cause in the summer of 1876. With dexterity and boldness, he led his troops across the former Las Villas Province and stopped only a few miles from Matanzas.

The Commander in Chief warned: “Under the Revolution’s government, they will no longer have their way. Their selfish interests will not prevail over the nation’s best interests anymore.”
1961In the first round of conferences to train the Ministry of Industries staff in the drafting of economic plans, Commander Ernesto Guevara said “…a new age of Cuban history has begun. In general terms, the task of demolishing the structure of the previous government is over and we must begin revolutionary creation.” He stressed that: “… a revolution cannot consolidate and move on unless it builds upon its economic achievements.”

1845Birth of Jesus Rabi, a patriot that fought side by side with Antonio Maceo, whose real name was Jesus Sablon Moreno.
1898US troops landed in Siboney. An outrageous incident happened. When the Yankees occupied Demetrio Castillo Duany’s headquarters, they lowered the Cuban flag and hoisted US flag.
1959During his stay in the United Arab Republic (today’s Egypt) Commander Ernesto Guevara met Salah Salem, an outstanding personality of the nationalist movement of that country. Che explained to his host that US News Agencies conspired to distort the truth of world events and prevent the peoples from knowing each other.
1960Fidel said on radio and TV that US political decisions were more prone to err than to draw lessons from history. They seemed to cling to their mistakes and be willing to die with them. The Commander in Chief remarked that US rulers had more to loose than the Cuban Revolution, because moral defeats cannot be measured in dollars. Fidel stressed that the Revolution would move on, in spite of all the aggressions and then the moral defeat of US policies will be even greater.

1960A US Navy carrier sailed the waters off Santiago de Cuba Morro Castle. Two fighters from the carrier provocatively overflew the bay and the former US Oil Refinery TEXACO. That industry had been expropriated the day before when it refused to comply with the order of the Revolutionary Government to refine for the State. That night, Commander in Chief Fidel Castro signed two resolutions with the same demand for Oil Refineries ESSO (US) and Shell (British).
1960The Revolutionary Government authorized one million pesos for the victims of an earthquake in Chile.
1974Beginning in Matanzas of first trial elections for the local bodies of People’s Power. The system was subsequently enacted in the rest of the country.
