FAO facilitates agricultural training in Cuba

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) reported its collaboration in preparing training classrooms for farmers and specialists in central Cuba.

In a statement released in Havana, the global entity explains that 11 rooms intended for these functions will soon be equipped in the provinces of Villa Clara and Sancti Spíritus, with technologies and computer supplies such as smart boards, computers, laptops, servers, networking devices and others.

The action will strengthen the management and governance processes of local food systems, as well as the capacities in the territories to develop. It will also apply and evaluate strategies, policies and regulatory frameworks intended for this purpose.

Such collaboration points to the project Sustainable food security in Cuba, in its component Strengthening policies for sustainable food security in Cuba, implemented by FAO and the Ministry of Agriculture with financing from the European Union.

The FAO Strategic Framework for 2022-2031 places special importance on innovation, technology and digital tools as accelerators of the transformation of agri-food systems in e-commerce, pest control, crop genetics, management of natural resources and warning of threats to food security.
