Elier Miranda defined success in Chess Olympiad

Havana, Sept 19 (JIT) – Elier Miranda’s victory on the third board sealed Cuba’s victory over Paraguay in the seventh round of the open group at the Budapest Chess Olympiad.

Miranda, national champion in 2023, took advantage of the mistakes of Jose Cubas in command of the white pieces, to defeat him and define the victory with a score of 2.5-1.5 points.

With the victory, the Cubans moved up to 33rd place in the ranking.

Carlos Daniel Albornoz and Axel Bachmann, , Luis Ernesto Quesada against the Cuban nationalized Paraguayan Neuris Delgado and Omar Almeida against Antonio Almirón, split points. 

The Cubans have so far completed five victorious performances and will be rivals this Thursday of the representatives of Israel.

During the day, the Indian team defeated China 2.5-1.5 and appears as the only one that has scored all possible points (14), one more than Iran.

In the women’s segment, the Cubans lost 2.5-1.5 to Turkmenistan and are now in 49th place in the ranking, dominated by India, the only winner in the seven rounds played.
