Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi has made new comments stressing the need for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and the urgent delivery of aid to its population. Speaking on the sidelines of the EU-Egypt Investment Conference held in Cairo, el-Sisi also warned against any expansion of the conflict amid growing threats of an all-out war between Israel and the Lebanese group Hezbollah.
“We call on the international community to take serious and rapid steps to prevent the region from sliding into a new and unprecedented cycle of conflict,” the president said in Cairo.
In other news, the Palestinian news agency Wafa is reporting that at least three people have been killed in an Israeli air attack on Rafah, in southern Gaza. A correspondent said the victims were transported to Nasser Hospital in the nearby city of Khan Younis.
The missile responsible for the attack was fired from a reconnaissance drone in the Shakoush area, northwest of Rafah, the news agency said.
