Debates begin in Cuba at cardiology conferences

With the motto Global challenges to confront cardiovascular diseases, the debates of the 10th Cuban Congress of Cardiology begin today with the participation of local professionals and from around the world.

The event, which will last until Friday, will also include the 1st Cuban Congress of Heart Failure and Pulmonary Hypertension to exchange experiences on the prevention, diagnosis, medical, surgical, interventional treatment and rehabilitation of patients with heart and great vessel disease.

According to the organizing committee, one of the objectives of the congresses is overcoming the current challenges in the management of coronary heart disease, high blood pressure, heart failure, arrhythmias, valve and coronary surgery.

Advances that Science and Technological Innovation at a global level have contributed in recent years will be addressed, as well as recent cardiac imaging diagnostic techniques, treatments with new drugs, ablation, state-of-the-art pacemakers, cardio-defibrillators, plastic surgeries and percutaneous heart valves prostheses.

The congresses also include recent stents, novel surgical techniques in adults and pediatric patients, and new approaches in cardiac rehabilitation.

Cardiologists, cardiovascular surgeons, intensivists, anesthesiologists and other related specialists, with a long history of work, participate in both congresses.

The presence of more than a hundred national and foreign specialists, mainly from Latin America, the United States and Europe, will facilitate learning about the most current experiences worldwide.

According to the Global Burden of Disease 2022 report, the incidence and mortality of cardiovascular diseases are increasing rapidly in low- and middle-income countries. Globally, more people die each year from these conditions than from any other cause, mainly ischemic heart disease and stroke.

Cardiovascular diseases are the deadliest in the world, and it is estimated that by 2030 almost 23.6 million people may die from one of these conditions.
