Cuba’s Regla Torres, three-time Olympic champion and voted the best volleyball player of the 20th century in the world, was officially presented as a member of the coaching staff of the Russian volleyball team Uralochka, led by the legendary Nikolay Karpol.
The official website of the club highlighted the official presentation of the chosen best player of the 20th century, who emphasized the honor of working in a historic team and with a coach from whom she can learn a lot.
The new responsibility entrusted to the Cuban, facing the Russian Volleyball Super League, will contribute to her professional development and to that of this sport on the island.
The team based in Yekaterinburg, a city located in central-western Russia, includes two Cuban players, opposite Yalain Regla de la Peña and center Dayana Martínez.
The former member of the Spectacular Morenas del Caribe will have the opportunity to closely follow her young pupils of the national team, as well as to collaborate in their first forays into the Russian championship.
Regla was a member of the legendary Cuban team that won the 1992 Barcelona, 1996 Atlanta and 2000 Sydney Olympic Games.
After the 2002 World Championship she decided to retire as an active player. In that decade she began her studies in physical culture and joined the Cuban Volleyball Federation. She was appointed to the women’s coaching staff, with which she has participated in different international tournaments.
