Cuba’s economy at the center of the analysis of the IX Plenary Session of the Central Committee of the Party

The role of the Communist Party in correcting errors and in the re-boosting of the national economy and the effective insertion of state and non-state actors will be topics that will be addressed at the IX Plenary Session of the Central Committee of the organization, between tomorrow and Friday.

The progress of the government program that aims at that objective, presented in 2023, and the proposed economic plan and budget for next year will be discussed.

According to Carlos Torres, president of the Economic Commission, in statements at a recent Round Table, this group of experts gathered criteria from more than 90,000 people throughout the country, including economic specialists, university academics, economic actors, members of mass organizations, and party and government structures. In other words, it is a democratic process, from which a broad participation in the destiny of the country emerges.

This participatory matrix, as corresponds to the vanguard and governing organization of society, generated about a thousand proposals during the exchanges. This complies with the Party statutes, which state that it “bases its authority on the justice of its political firmness, on the example of its militants, on the link with the people, on its capacity to listen, to persuade and to incorporate the majority into the struggle for the objectives of the Revolution.”

A prominent place in the debates will be the critical analysis of the functioning of the economy, and that of its actors, as well as that related to the strengthening of union structures in these areas and the promotion of cooperatives.

According to Jorge Luis Broche Lorenzo, member of the Secretariat of the Central Committee, macroeconomic stabilization, the incentive for foreign investment, tourism, the review of mechanisms for allocating foreign currency to companies, and the exchange market, among others, will be on the agenda.

Yoerki Sánchez, head of the Ideological Commission, added that the Plenum will weigh the impact and risks of each decision, as well as the mechanisms of social protection, because only the unity of the Party and its revolutionary forces will be able to reverse the problems identified.
