Cuban weightlifter Marifélix Sarría (+87kg) reached fourth place with a biathlon of 267 kilograms (kg) in the World Weightlifting Championship, which ends today in the capital of Bahrain, Manama.
Sarría made her debut in absolute world championships with the best lifts of 110 kg in the snatch (seventh) and 157 kg in the rebound (fourth) to place 13 kg away from the bronze medal.
After only achieving her initial weight in the snatch (110 kg) the young woman recovered in the repulsion and celebrated the weights of 150 and 157 kg to surpass her best lift by two kilograms.
Sarría was able to overcome in her specialty, the rebound, imposing with 157 kg, Pan American youth record and certifying the second best place of a Cuban in world championships, only surpassed by Ludia Montero, silver medalist in 2019 in Thailand.
In the full category of the Manama World Championships, China’s Yan Li dominated from start to finish with 149 kg in the snatch, 175 kg in the repulsion and a total of 324 kg; in second place overall was South Korea’s Hyejeong Park with 295 kg (124 kg and 171 kg) and her compatriot, Younghee Son, won bronze with a biathlon of 280 kg (118 kg, 162 kg).
