Cuba’s U21 women’s national team defeated Puerto Rico 3-0 on Friday in the closing day of the group phase of the North, Central America and Caribbean (Norceca) Pan American Volleyball Cup, scheduled to last until May 28 in Nogales, Mexico.
According to the website www.norceca.net, the Cubans defeated the Puerto Ricans with scores of 25-19, 25-17 and 25-21, in an hour and 17 minutes of action on the court and dominance in all areas of the game.
The official statistics of the match highlight that Wilfredo Robinson’s players were better in attack, 45 for 40 points, blocking (9-7), service (3-1) and own errors (9-18).
The top scorer of the match was Lisania Grafort, who accumulated 16 points, all in attack, followed by Puerto Rico’s Grece Mar Lopez (15/15-0-0) and Cuba’s Thainalien Leyva (13/11-2-0) and Elisdeidys Reyes (11/6-5-0), respectively.
An important victory for Cuba in section A ahead of the quarterfinals and semifinals that will take place this Friday with the crossing of the second and third place teams of the groups, and on Saturday with the key leaders and the winners of the quarterfinals, in that order.
The Mexico-Belize (A), United States-Costa Rica and Dominican Republic-Guatemala (B) matches are still to be played this day.
