Cuban triple jumpers Leyanis Perez and Liadagmis Povea took first and second places, respectively, in the World Athletics Indoor Tour silver category meeting in Metz, France, in what was the debut of both of them in the winter indoor tour of the current year 2024.
Perez, bronze medalist at the World Athletics Championships held in Budapest, Hungary, last August, jumped 14.45 meters (m) in her second attempt, to dominate the triple jump and establish the best mark in the recently initiated season.
The Cuban athlete, champion at the Pan American Games in Santiago de Chile, concluded last November, in her first attempt achieved 14.24 meters, which would also have been enough for her to win the event.
Her teammate Povea, sixth in the universal competition and winner of the silver medal in the continental multisport event in the Chilean capital, placed second with 14.20 m obtained in her third attempt.
Completing the leading trio was Spain’s Ana Peleteiro (14.18 m), bronze medalist at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, according to the official website of the French Athletics Federation.
For the triples jumpers of the Caribbean nation, this kind of competitions will serve as a warm-up for the competition under the five rings to be held in Paris, France, from July 26 to August 11, for which they have already qualified.
The Cuban Athletics Federation recently informed the press that the two triple jump exponents must also compete in the meeting in Mondeville, France, on February 7, as part of the indoor winter tour.
