Cuban Minister of CITMA holds meeting with UNESCO official

The head of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment of Cuba (CITMA), Elba Rosa Pérez Montoya held a meeting this Thursday with Lidia Brito, deputy director general of the United Nations Educational Organization, Science and Culture (UNESCO).

In its X profile, CITMA informed that the meeting dealt with cooperation between universities, the promotion of basic sciences, and small island states.

The UNESCO official is in Havana to participate on Friday and Saturday in the Summit of the Group of 77 and China, which will meet under the theme Current development challenges: Role of Science, Technology and Innovation.

Brito joined UNESCO in November 2009 as Director of Science Policy and Sustainable Development in the Natural Sciences Sector, in Paris, and in 2014 she was appointed Regional Director of Sciences for UNESCO in Latin America and the Caribbean. During the years from 2018 to 2021, she chaired the regional organizing committee of the Open Science Forum for Latin America and the Caribbean.
