The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cuba, Bruno Rodríguez, today highlighted the demand of the United Nations that the United States cease measures such as the unilateral inclusion of states as sponsors of Terrorism.
Through the social network X, Rodríguez spread this demand from rapporteurs and experts from the international organization on unilateral coercive measures, food, international order, external debt and solidarity, so that the northern power fulfills its international obligations and immediately abandons that policy.
As explained in his message, the UN notified the United States that the unilateral designation of countries supposedly sponsoring terrorism, as is the case with Cuba, violates the International Law and Human Rights of affected peoples, including the right to food, health, education, development and the right to life.
According to experts, such a policy goes against fundamental principles, including the sovereign equality of States, the prohibition of intervening in the internal affairs of States and the peaceful settlement of international disputes.
Cuba, the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, Iran and Syria are on this State Department list, with additional restrictions imposed.
The inclusion of the Caribbean nation on the list in January 2021 was one of the last decisions made by the Administration of Republican Donald Trump (2017-2021) before leaving power.
