Congress on people with disabilities inaugurated in Cuba

The I International Congress “People in a situation of disability as subjects of Civil and Family Law” was inaugurated this Wednesday at the University of Havana (UH).

The secretary of the National Assembly of the Popular Power of Cuba (Parliament), Homero Acosta Álvarez, participated in the activity.  On his Twitter profile, the official explained that the event is a legal look to achieve greater inclusion of this population group.

The program of the congress, which will be held at the Hotel Nacional de Cuba until tomorrow, Friday, includes presentations, magisterial conferences and panels, in order to promote the development of new legal mechanisms and strengthen the existing ones for the benefit of people in situations of disability.

The meeting is convened by the Union of Jurists of Cuba, the Ministries of Labor and Social Security, and of Justice, the Federation of Cuban Women, the American Association of Jurists and the Latin American Association of Labor Lawyers, among others.

The central theme of the meeting is the 15th anniversary of the entry into force of the Convention on the rights of people with disabilities.
