Chile revives hopes for 2026 FIFA World Cup

The illusion of attending the 2026 World Cup is renewed today in Chile, after the victory of the national team against Venezuela in the South American qualifiers.

With a pair of goals by Lucas Cepeda, one by Eduardo Vargas, and an own goal by Tomás Rincón, La Roja won, after goals by Jefferson Savarino and Rubén Ramírez put the Vinotinto on the scoreboard twice.

This victory of the Chilean team, under the direction of Argentine coach Ricardo Gareca, puts them in ninth place with nine points, while Venezuela is eighth with 12 points on the last FIFA date of the year.

A particular highlight was Luciano Cabral, who plays for the Mexican team León and came on at 67′ in place of Arturo Vidal.

The midfielder helped to destabilize the Venezuelan team in the decisive minutes and even scored a goal that was later disallowed by the VAR.

This was the last World Cup qualifier of the year and the actions will return in March 2025, when they will face Paraguay and Ecuador.
