Belgian project of solidarity with Cuba extends action to sports

The Belgian association Cuba Soberana said through its coordinator, Reinaldo Romero, that it will extend to the sports sector its accompaniment to the island, focused so far essentially in the area of health.

We want to diversify our support work, in coordination with local sports authorities, an action that will initially benefit the provinces of Pinar del Río, Havana and Camagüey, Romero told Prensa Latina.

According to the Cuban resident in Belgium, the intention of the humanitarian project is to initially focus on volleyball, by sponsoring that discipline in the School of Sports Initiation of Pinar del Río and supporting municipalities in Havana and Camagüey.

The first donations are already on the island, consisting of uniforms, balls, protective equipment and basic material for strength training.

We also want to promote exchanges of experience on the practice of volleyball in both countries, especially the work with children, said the former high-performance athlete.

Romero said he will seek to involve in the solidarity initiative other former Cuban athletes living abroad, associations and people in general willing to be part of it.

Cuba Soberana made it possible, with the support of Belgian organizations and citizens, as well as Cubans living in the European country, to send three containers of medical equipment and supplies to the Antillean nation in 2021 and one last year.

We continue to grow, both in members and scope, and we are already preparing for a fifth container, in communion with associations such as the Friends of Cuba in Belgium and Salsa Bruges, although the date has not yet been set, he said.
