The Cuban Confederation of Workers (CTC) has chosen the José Martí Anti-Imperialist Tribune in the capital as the venue for the central activities for International Workers’ Day on May Day, its directors announced.
The Secretary General of the CTC, Ulises Guilarte, told Cuban television that this is the second time that the world’s largest trade union celebration will take place on the island outside its usual venue, the José Martí Revolution Square, also in Havana.
The labor leader defended the symbolism of the Anti-imperialist Tribune, which he described as a stage where the spirit of struggle and rebellion of the Cuban revolutionary process has been expressed many times.
Organizers of the parade explained that more than 65 thousand people from five municipalities of Havana will attend the meeting of the world proletariat, which will be replicated in every town and square of the country.
Likewise, the leader of the CTC assured that this May Day they will celebrate the 65th anniversary of the first parade held on the island after the triumph of the Cuban Revolution in January 1959.
In the central act, Cubans will demand the end of the U.S. economic blockade and the exclusion of the island from the illegal list of countries allegedly sponsoring terrorism, in addition to encouraging the increase of food production, said the labor leader.
Guilarte participated together with the first secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) in the capital, Liván Izquierdo, in one of the massive voluntary works that took place today, on the occasion of the 63rd anniversary of the triumph at Playa Girón, and the founding of the party organization.
