Cuba has begun to celebrate National Press Day with a floral tribute at the tomb of the patriot Juan Gualberto Gómez, in the Colón Necropolis, on the 92nd anniversary of his death.
The tribute to this revolutionary journalist, a disciple and advocate of José Martí’s ideas, is part of a series of events organized by the Cuban Journalists’ Union until March 19.
The schedule also includes the presentation of the 2024 National Historical Journalism Competition and a meeting with young journalists on the 6th, focusing on the Granma expeditionary Juan Manuel Márquez.
In addition, there will be book launches and photographic displays, including those that are allegorical to the Public Press, People’s Press festival.
Similarly, the celebrations will feature the presentation of the 2024 José Martí National Journalism Award for the Work of Life and the 2024 Juan Gualberto Gómez Award.
The Cuban Press Day is observed annually on March 14th, commemorating the establishment of the Patria newspaper in 1892 by the National Hero José Martí.
