Cuba defeats Germany and fuels the Olympic dream: Volleyball Nations League

The Cuban volleyball team achieved a great victory against Germany, marked by a comeback in the fourth set, and kept alive the dream of achieving the Olympic ticket through the world ranking, in the Volleyball Nations League .

The Cuban team won the first set with a closing score of 26-24, a partial victory supported by the fundamental production of Miguel Ángel López, who achieved eight points, of which seven were in attack.

After a promising start, the second quarter was even better for the island, as the score was much larger, 25-20, with Marlon Yant who took the lead and was able to lead the way in a leading role.

The fourth set featured a Cuban team that reached the final moments in tow of the Germans, who managed to maintain the lead despite the fact that the island threatened to get closer to avoid going to the fifth set.

Cuba managed to recover from a disadvantage that seemed definitive and tied the action at 21-21 in the final moments, to manage to go ahead on the scoreboard in the next action thanks to Melgarejo’s service.

However, Germany did not give up and managed to take the lead once again, to add more excitement to the final stretch of the fourth quarter and test Cuba’s resilience in this League of Nations.

The Cuban team, almost forced to win in that same set to avoid going to the tiebreak, did not give up and turned the score around again to close another great demonstration with a score of 25-23 and take the final victory 3-1.

With this result, the Cuban team added 7.18 points, because the match ended with a score of three sets to one (26-24, 25-20, 18-25 and 25-23).

The top scorers for Cuba were Marlon Yant (21 points), Miguel Ángel López (18), Javier Concepción (13) and Robertlandy Simón (9).
