A total of 31 people – including civilians and military – have been detained in Venezuela, since May 2023, for allegedly being involved in five conspiracy plans that included the assassination of President Nicolás Maduro and assaults to military installations, informed this Monday the Attorney General, Tarek William Saab.
During a press conference, the prosecutor recounted the sequence of several unveiled actions, whose purpose was to assassinate the head of state. The last of them was to take place in January and included terrorist acts.
He pointed out that since 2001, the nation has been the target of destabilization by violence and reported that in 2023 conspiracy plans were developed against the country. “These five conspiracies are linked to each other and are part of a broader plan against the peace and sovereignty of Venezuela,” he said.
The first of them was deactivated in the month of May 2023.In this case, the citizen Uaiparu Guerere López was apprehended. In addition to the arrest of Guerere López, another 10 persons have been charged for the crime of conspiracy and treason.

The prosecutor emphasized that the crimes charged to all those involved: resistance to authority, personal injuries, damage to property, conspiracy, treason, revelation of military secrets, illicit trafficking of arms and ammunition.
Saab highlighted that in a second conspiracy case “it was determined that a group of civilians and police officers were operating in coordination with members of a Foreign Intelligence Organization”.The conspirators were recruiting members of the security forces “to gain access to confidential information related to presidential security, military units and political events.For this plot there are three citizens deprived of their freedom who have already been accused: Douglas Ruiz; Jesús Rodríguez and Rolando Rojas”.

The crimes for which they were charged are terrorism, treason, conspiracy with foreign governments, revelation of military secrets and association, indicated the prosecutor, who added: that a third case of conspiracy during the year 2023 was dismantled, where a terrorist group sought to make an attempt against the life of President Nicolás Maduro and the Minister of Defense, Vladimir Padrino.
