Cuba will participate in the XX Pan American Women’s Volleyball Cup, to be held at the Juan “Pachín” Vicéns Auditorium in Ponce, Puerto Rico, from August 6 to 13.
The tournament will be attended by 12 teams, eight representing North, Central America and the Caribbean (Norceca), which will be seeking the two places granted by the event for the XIX Pan American Games of Santiago de Chile 2023, scheduled from October 20 to November 5.
The Dominicans, Canadians, Costa Ricans, Cubans, Mexicans, Puerto Ricans, Surinamese and Americans belong to North, Central America and the Caribbean (Norceca), while the Argentines, Chileans, Colombians and Peruvians will be from the South American Confederation.
The two teams that win the quota will complete the list of the four teams that will attend the Chilean multisport event for Norceca, since the Dominican Republic and Mexico have already qualified.
According to the website www.norceca.net, the dozen teams are divided into two groups, and the team from the largest Antillean Island, bronze medalist at the Central American and Caribbean Games of San Salvador 2023, will share group A with Canada, Colombia, Peru, the United States and Suriname.
The teams of Argentina, Chile, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, defending champion and owner of the last versions -2021 and 2022 with six titles-, Mexico and host Puerto Rico appear in the B section.
Cuba will debut on the 6th against Canada, before facing the United States (7th), Suriname (8th), Colombia (9th) and Puerto Rico (10th).
Also scheduled for the first day are the matches United States-Suriname (A), Mexico-Argentina (B), Colombia-Peru (A), Puerto Rico-Costa Rica (B) and Dominican Republic-Chile (B).
The Dominicans, Canadians, Costa Ricans, Cubans, Mexicans, Puerto Ricans, Surinamese and Americans represent Norceca, while the Argentines, Chileans, Colombians and Peruvians will represent the South American Confederation.
The historical medal tally is headed by the United States, with seven crowns, followed by the Dominican Republic (6), Cuba (4) and Brazil (3).
As established, the first place in each section will advance directly to the semifinals, while the second and third place finishers will advance to the quarterfinals.
The preliminary phase will be from 6 to 10 with six matches per day. The quarterfinals, the qualifying round for positions seven through 10 and the final qualifying for positions 11 through 12 will be played on the 11th.
It also provides that the semifinal, qualifying round for positions five through eight and final qualifying for rungs nine through 10 are scheduled for the 12th.
The 13th will begin with the final qualifying for positions seven through 10 and five through six, followed by the bronze and gold medal matches.
