The National Assembly of the People’s Power of Cuba (Parliament) will hold its 2nd Extraordinary Session in the Tenth Legislature on May 25, preceded by two days dedicated to the preparation of the deputies.
Homero Acosta, Secretary of Parliament and the Council of State, said this Friday at a press conference that the meeting will update on the country’s economic situation, focus on resuming debates on the draft Social Communication Law, and the presentation of the legislative schedule.
Acosta valued the space as highly profitable for the training of the members of the Cuban Parliament, taking into account the high rate of renewal in its ranks, more than 64 percent, and the presence of grassroots delegates (50%) who can provide a different and constructive look at the analysis.
He specified that on May 23, these actions will begin with a conference by Esteban Lazo Hernández, president of the National Assembly, together with other deputies and legal specialists, mainly oriented to legal matters and the normative construction that will accompany parliamentary activity during the term.
The presentations will continue on the following day, focused on government management and the conception of communication, which will culminate in the afternoon with a speech by the President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel.
The Secretary of Parliament said that the Permanent Work Commissions and the Parliamentary Friendship Groups with other countries will be constituted in those days in order to strengthen cooperation.
Likewise, matters concerning the link of the deputies with the localities in which they were nominated, and the adoption of an agreement of the Council of State regarding attention to the proposals of the population will be defined.
