Cuban Minister of Science, Technology and Environment (CITMA) Elba Rosa Pérez exchanged this Thursday in Berlin with Sultan al-Jaber, president of the 28th Summit of the Parties of the Framework Convention of the UN on Climate Change (COP 28).
The meeting took place at the international meeting known as the Petersberg Dialogue, whose objective is to prepare the stage for COP 28, which will take place in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, from November 30 to December 12.
Pérez reiterated the Cuban support for the Emirati presidency and commented on the country’s priorities, including the results of science, the implementation of the State Plan to confront climate change, and the interest in expanding joint collaboration.
Likewise, she extended an invitation to Sultan al-Jaber to participate in the 14th International Convention on Environment and Development, scheduled for July 3-7 at the Havana Convention Center.
In turn, Pedro Luis Pedroso, Cuban ambassador to Germany, reiterated his support for Sultan al-Jaber in his capacity as Special Representative to coordinate the Presidency of the Group of 77 plus China.
Cuba assumed since last January, and for the first time, the Pro Tempore Presidency of the G77 + China, a negotiating bloc of developing countries made up of 134 nations, representing two thirds of the UN members and 80 percent of the world population, although for historical reasons the name has not changed.
