Cuban women judokas to France to complete training base

Cuban judokas will depart this Saturday for France, where they will be on a training base to meet with clubs in that country and compete in several tournaments in Europe, with the first one in the Grand Slam of Paris.

A total of 14 women have been chosen by the technical team directed by Yordanis Arencibia and led by Idalis Ortiz, Olympic (1-2-1) and world (2-2-4) multi medalist in the over 78 kilograms (kg), who, despite her little participation in competitions in 2022, is ranked 12th in the world.

Vanesa Godinez (48 kg), Zamarit Gregorio Vasconcelo (48 kg), Melissa Hurtado (52 kg), Blanca Elena Cabrera (52 kg), Arnaes Odelin (57 kg) and Yuinisleidys Hernandez (57 kg) will also travel.

The selection is completed with Maylin del Toro (63 kg), Yusmary Reyes (63 kg), Yusmary Regla Garcia (63 kg), Idelannis Gomez (70 kg), Nairelis Fuentes (70 kg), Santa Romero (78 kg) and Dayle Ojeda (+78 kg).

Cuban judo has several multiple competitions this year, especially the Central American and Caribbean Games in San Salvador, June 23 to July 8, and the Pan American Games in Santiago de Chile, October 20 to November 5, without forgetting the Olympic Games in Paris 2024.

Rafael Manso, president and commissioner of the Cuban Federation, ratified that the first competitive commitment will be the Grand Slam of Paris (February 4-5), followed by the Grand Slam of Tel Aviv, Israel (March 16-18), Tashkent, Uzbekistan (March 3-5) and Tbilisi, Georgia (March 24-16).

In March there will also be a qualifying tournament in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, for the Salvadoran event, and in April, the Varadero Open, Cuba, while in May the World Senior Championship is planned in Doha, Qatar, and in November, the Junior Championship in Coimbra, Portugal.
